Review of 2016

During 2016, the Group continued to provide support and information on diabetes to local people and their carers in the Reading area. There were 5 evening meetings and 3 afternoon meetings with a wide range of speakers including – the local fire service, a diabetes specialist nurse, solutions 4 health, tax information. There was also the Christmas party which was a great success and enjoyed by all who attended. A big thanks from all who attended, to those who helped organise this.

We also continue to distribute Balance magazine and other information to local GP surgeries.

Several members of the committee attended a Diabetes UK (DUK) south east Making a Difference  conference early in the year. Members also supported DUK Roadshows and the Big Collection.

Committee members also manned stalls at the Older People's Day in Reading and at the Pangbourne Art society exhibition. Jennifer has also done several radio, TV and newspaper interviews during the year.

No fundraising events were undertaken this year but the group received donations from Waitrose (the green token scheme), Pangbourne Art society and The Link (churches in Tilehurst) amongst others. The 100 club also raised £650.

The committee have decided that £1000 from club funds will be donated to DUK research funds.
